MORE ABOUT DR. MATTHEWS
Richard J. Matthews, Ph.D. received a degree in Pharmacy
in 1951 from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science. In
1955 he received a Doctorate of Philosophy degree in Pharmacology
at the Jefferson Medical College of Philadelphia.
Dr. Matthews' career in drug development research
began at the Upjohn Company where he was the head of the Neuropharmacology
Department. In 1962, he started a research laboratory in Scranton,
Pennsylvania, USA. The name of the company was Pharmakon, Inc. After
four years of successful operation, Dr. Matthews sold Pharmakon,
Inc. to the Union Carbide Corporation. Dr. Matthews joined Union
Carbide Corporation in Sterling Forest, New York, as the Director
of Pharmacology.
In 1969, Dr. Matthews re-established Pharmakon Laboratories,
and in 1980 formed Pharmakon Research International. Dr. Matthews
retired from Pharmakon Research International in October 1994, and
now devotes his time to the development of the Strata-C®
product line.
Dr. Matthews is a member of the American Society for
Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, Inc., as well as the
American Academy of Dermatology. He has devoted his professional
life to the research and development of new drugs for the treatment
of human diseases.
